Frequency is a song about attraction.
It’s about that unquantifiable, indescribable thing that sparks between two people and changes the game.
It is about the feeling we chase when we’re looking for love.
With this video, we wanted to tell a story we haven’t told before. Love comes in all shapes and sizes. Sparks fly in the most unexpected places. And we wanted that to be the center of the story.
The wedding that starts and ends each of the videos (which is the tie that binds all five together) is also the catalyst for each video. In “Frequency,” the wedding causes Liz, the main character, to imagine her own love story. We are transported to another world, where the feeling, the frequency, runs the show, where we have the freedom to give in to the spark.
I have always been someone who runs from these kinds of feelings, runs from the electricity, particularly when I was younger. These feelings are scary and out of control and embracing that kind of magic would be agreeing to take a step into the unknown that has so many times felt all too big for my tiny body. One of the things I want more of in my life now that I am a bit older and more confident in my abilities to withstand heartbreak, is more of this. I want more feelings, more magic and more frequency. This video is a celebration of that.
It bears mentioning that this is the first video of mine that features a same sex relationship. I love that it reminds us that these feelings are universal; the spark is universal. And it is my greatest hope that we are all lucky enough in our short lives to feel this way about someone and have them feel the same way back, no matter who we are and who we love.
